ABOUTThe Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative (GLSI) is expanding K–12 classrooms and improving communities across Michigan. It was established in November 2007 by the Great Lakes Fishery Trust with the support of the Wege Foundation. The GLSI features three components:
Teaching and learning that happen through the GLSI are aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum, Grade Level Content Expectations, and High School Content Expectations (available for download at: http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,1607,7-140-28753---,00.html). The GLSI awards grants to regional hubs. Hubs provide leadership, expertise, support for teachers, and material and financial resources for the collaborative, local work of students and community organizations. To see the location of funded hubs in Michigan, click here. The GLSI is served by an Advisory Group and a Funders’ Collaborative. Members of each group lend expertise and resources that advance the GLSI in schools and communities and among key stakeholders and policymakers in Michigan.
