The Grand Traverse Stewardship Initiative (GTSI) provides leadership and resources to support its three priority areas: place-based education, school-community partnerships, and sustained professional development for teachers. Since 2010, 89 teachers, 113 community partners, and 5,000 students have collaborated on place-based projects.

In 2016, Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA), based in Suttons Bay, Michigan, became the new host organization for the GTSI. This decision was a direct result of the GTSI's and the ISEA's shared belief in the value of place-based education and its ability to positively impact children, the community, and our natural resources.
